who are Medically Fragile and/or Dependent on Technology
Specialty Nursing Services
Totally Kids® Specialty Healthcare currently serves children newborn through age 21 who have one or more dependencies on technology, and/or who have short-term surgical recovery, wound care, hydration, or rehabilitation needs.
These services are provided under Skilled Nursing Licensure but are referred to as Pediatric Subacute services due to the more intensive nursing care needed.
We have successfully served children with the following needs and conditions:

- Electrolyte and fluid replacement
- Neurological insults - post trauma

- Post transplantation-liver
- Parenteral Nutrition

- Ventilator Support
- Tracheostomy Tubes
- Gastrostomy Tubes
- Ileostomy and Colostomy Stomas
Step-Down Transition to Home is Effective
Totally Kids® should be considered as an effective interim step between the acute hospital and home. Contributing to our success is our social environment which enables children to transition to home more easily due to our home-like environment.
Our family training room provides for overnight hands-on training-- not only for the parents, but siblings, as well.
Global View
Totally Kids® has developed a model environment for caring for medically fragile children. Our "whole child" approach incorporates Pediatric Nurse Practitioners and all disciplines in our care management. Nurse Practitioners also assist our comprehensive team of Pediatricians and Pediatric Sub-Specialists to provide the finest medical management.
A highly individualized plan of care is developed for each child by the professional team in conjunction with the parents and child. The overall cost is actually reduced in this preferred model.
Hospice Services
Hospice services for children are available for a limited number of admissions. However, Totally Kids® is in a position to develop ten to fifteen beds dedicated to hospice within a three to four month period should the need be presented.
Insurance, HMO or Medi-Cal
Utilizing Totally Kids® Specialty Healthcare as a partner is cost effective for all insurance and Medi-Cal patients, especially under capitation models. We facilitate the greatest reduction in daily costs while caring for stabilized children with quality services. Hospitals can reduce losses even with patients who are awaiting other placement under various "administrative days" arrangements.
Dedicated Beds
Totally Kids® Specialty Healthcare is in a position to hold dedicated beds, by arrangement, for various services needed by hospitals or insurance carriers.
Special Housing for Parents
Kids 4 Ever is a special not-for-profit organization dedicated to serving children at Totally Kids®. Kids 4 Ever maintains a home next door to Totally Kids® in order to provide an over-night room at little or no cost to parents and other family members of children receiving care at Totally Kids®. This is a great relief from difficulties that distance from their home may create.
Training / Site Visits
We would like to invite individuals or groups of nurses, physicians, and case mangers to our facility to meet our children and see the endless possibilities. We are also available to give on-site inservices. Top
