A New Home Or A Step Toward Home

Totally Kids^® can meet the needs of many chronically, critically ill children in a family-friendly environment at one third the cost of an acute care hospital. We can be an effective interim step between the acute hospital and home whenever possible. When medical needs prevent going home, we offer a program to meet the social, educational, spiritual and physical needs of the child.

A full-time Child Life Specialist works hand-in-hand with a full-time Social Worker, Nurse Practitioner, public school teacher and a pediatric trained nursing staff to maximize the experiences of each child. Physicians see each child at least twice as often as State standards prescribe.

Siblings of any age and other family members can visit at any hour. During these visits the staff work with family to familiarize them with the high tech equipment serving their child.

Insurance, HMO or Medi-Cal

Utilizing Totally Kids^® Specialty Healthcare as a partner is cost effective for all insurance and Medi-Cal patients, especially under capitation models. We facilitate the greatest reduction in daily costs while caring for stabilized children with quality services. Managed care organizations can always refer individual patients and enter into one-time contracts but significant savings can be realized with a global contract.

Although the number of appropriate pediatric subacute patients per any given number of covered lives can be small, the financial impact of caring for each child can be enormous.

Patients also are being served from outside of California and have been covered by state agencies in Nevada and Arizona.

Totally Kids^® is Growing

Our facility in Loma Linda, California opened in 1994 for subacute care and was the first to contract with Medi-Cal for pediatric subacute services. Totally Kids^® - Sun Valley is now open to provide the same quality and loving approach to pediatric care in Los Angeles! Coming soon to Loma Linda - We are expanding our Loma Linda facility to provide more resident beds, and we are adding a neo-natal wing.

With growth come new opportunities for care. Both locations are now available. The Los Angeles location is designed for more short-term care for children preparing for acute rehabilitation in addition to services for chronic illness. Hospice services for a limited number of children are also now available. New Pediatric Day Health and Respite care programs have opened in Loma Linda and are coming to Sun Valley! This vital service offers caregivers relief and enhances life experiences for the children. Medi-Cal EPSDT provides a payment source for eligible children.

Training/Site Visits

Individuals or groups of nurses, physicians, case managers and insurance contract officials are encouraged to visit our facility, to meet our children and see the possibilities. We are also available to give on-site inservices and can offer programs authorized for nursing Continuing Education credits.
